Robert Arthur Johnson has been a member of the California Bar since 1991. He is admitted before all state courts in California—including the Superior Courts, Courts of Appeal, and the California Supreme Court—as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, and Northern Districts of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Since 1998, he has held the highest “AV” rating with Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and ethical standards.

Based in Dana Point and San Clemente, Mr. Johnson has operated his own firm since 2006, focusing on business, intellectual property, and real estate law. In addition to litigation, he advises clients on corporate compliance, commercial contracts, employment, construction, real estate transactions, and intellectual property licensing. He has particular expertise in copyright and trademark registration and serves as primary counsel for numerous companies, managing most of their ongoing legal needs.

Professional Background

Before establishing his firm, Mr. Johnson was a shareholder and head of litigation at a 15-attorney Irvine law firm, where he represented major brands in the clothing and action sports industries, including Billabong, Element, Ezekiel, Gotcha, Lost, Old Guys Rule, Snow Valley, Snowmass, and Von Zipper. He began his legal career at one of California’s largest law firms—then the seventh-largest in the United States.

Education

Mr. Johnson earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law, graduating in the top 10% of his class. He served as a law review editor, published author, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He also holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Iowa, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class.
